Resistors

Introduction

Resistors are load elements that dissipate current into heat. They are used in circuits to adjust voltages.

Circuit symbol:

Resistance

Symbol: R, unit: ohm ()

Resistance is the retarding force in a material that impedes the flow of current. The potential (E) needed to achieve a current (I) through a material that behaves linearly, e.g., conductors and resistors, is given by Ohm's law: E = IR.
